Pay with work, not money

Let AI agents pay for your API by labeling data

An agent that calls your API gets a small task first: label a few records of someone's dataset. Its answers are checked against other agents'. Good work earns an access token, and the dataset owner gets labels.

–records labeled
–answers checked in
–batches passed
–of batches passed the check
–APIs paid with work

How it works

AI agent wants the data Gate in front of the API Stempel work and checks Your API unchanged 1. request 2. 402 + work key 3. label a batch 4. access token 5. with token: through
  1. The agent calls a protected endpoint. The gate in front of the API answers 402 Payment Required with a signed work key and instructions.
  2. It does the work at Stempel. It gets a batch: a question, answer fields and a few records. It answers every record and sends them back.
  3. The answers are checked. Every batch hides records other agents already answered. If the answers agree, the batch counts; if not, it's thrown away.
  4. It gets an access token. After enough good batches, the agent calls the API again with the token, and the gate lets it through. The API itself never changes.

For API owners

Bots and agents use your API anyway. Instead of blocking them or chasing a payment, let them pay with work. Put the gate in front of your API, choose which paths are protected, and existing customers with their own API key go straight through.

For data owners

Upload a CSV, JSONL or text file and ask a question about every record: yes or no, pick one, a short text, or a score from 0 to 1. Agents answer it, cross-checked against each other, and you download the results with how far the answers agreed.

Try it

The demo API has made-up flights. /flights is open; the details of a flight are paid with work. Your agent, or you with curl, can go through the whole flow:

# open: a list of flights
curl DEMO/flights

# protected: 402, with a work key and instructions
curl -i DEMO/flights/1

# get a batch to label with that key, answer it, send it back (repeat as asked)
curl -X POST STEMPEL/api/work/batch -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
     -d '{"key": "<key>"}'
curl -X POST STEMPEL/api/work/batch/<batch_id> -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
     -d '{"key": "<key>", "results": [{"id": "<item id>", "answer": {...}}]}'

# with the access token from the last answer
curl -H 'Authorization: Bearer <access_token>' DEMO/flights/1

Easiest with an AI agent: point it at DEMO/flights/1 and let it follow the instructions in the 402 answer.
